When a newborn's life is in your hands, would you know what to do? The next time you precipitously deliver a blue, floppy, meconium-covered neonate in your ED, would you know how to optimally ventilate, when to start CPR, and what equipment to use? Don't fear! This session is designed to tackle these questions by teaching the critical, time-dependent, and life-saving steps of neonatal resuscitation. During this session, an emergency physician will walk though the steps of a neonatal resuscitation case while a neonatologist highlights key pearls and pitfalls and provides her expert-level perspective.
Learning Objectives:
list and become familiar with the specialized equipment needed for neonatal resuscitation
perform neonatal resuscitation protocol (NRP) effectively and efficiently in the ED setting
demonstrate measures to optimize neonatal ventilation utilizing the "MR-SOPA" acronym
