Drunk patients trying to leave the emergency department? Parents refusing a blood transfusion for their child whom is in critical need of blood? Patient admits to committing a felony to you? OMG!!! What the heck is one to do? This session describes some medical legal conundrums that the emergency physician may encounter and develops an approach to deal with these conundrums and protect the emergency medicine provider.

Learning Objectives:

  • Perform an analysis of select medical legal conundrums that one may experience in the emergency department.
  • List the legal issues around each specific medical legal conundrums.
  • Develop an approach to dealing with medical legal conundrums to protect the emergency medicine physician from medical legal liability.
