Use of ultrasound guidance in placement of central venous catheters is well known to increase success rates and decrease complications. This has been standard practice for internal jugular lines for years and is gaining popularity for placement of subclavian lines. This talk will cover how to use ultrasound guidance in placing a subclavian vein catheter and how to confirm appropriate placement without waiting for x-ray.

After this session, the learner will able to describe the technique for placing a subclavian central venous catheter using ultrasound guidance.
After this session, the learner will able to demonstrate how to use ultrasound to verify central venous catheter position without the need for chest x-ray.
