In this 20 minute session, we will review the history of chemical restraint, summarizing the pros and cons of the use of agents that have been traditionally used. We will then transition into a review of the literature surrounding more recently introduced agents with the goal of giving the attendee more options in their armamentarium in the treatment of the acutely agitated patient.
After this session, the learner will be able to effectively utilize a greater variety of agents while providing chemical restraint of the acutely agitated patient.
After this session, the learner will be able to tailor the use of these chemical restraint agents to a specific patient in the context of their comorbidities and particular presentation.
