AAEM/RSA Intro to Critical Care in Emergency Medicine

Pre-registration is required.

The course's theory is completed over 2 months in an 8-part lecture series (optional 9th part) prior to AAEM23. Topics include: Pharmacology, ABG’s, Ventilation, IABP/ECMO, Pediatric/Neonatal Critical Care, Hemodynamic Monitoring, Cardiac Pacing, Fluid Therapy and POCUS. At AAEM23, the practical sessions will be completed over 5-hours and are divided into 2 sections: “Advanced Airway Management” and the “Usage of Mechanical Ventilators”.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be familiarized with pertinent topics in Critical Care and Anesthesia relevant to Emergency Medicine. The early identification and application of critical interventions are imperative for any clinician providing emergent care.
  • Be confidant in the following areas: Pharmacology, ABG's/Chemistry Panel/CBC Interpretation, Oxygen Therapy and Ventilation, IABP/ECMO, Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care, Hemodynamic/Intracranial Monitoring, Cardiac Pacing, Fluid Therapy and POCUS Ultrasound.
  • Have practical experience in advanced airway management techniques and mechanical ventilatory initiation and management. The attendees will have the opportunity to apply hands-on techniques to various respiratory treatment strategies.
