Debbie Fletcher, MD FAAEM is Acting Chief of Emergency Medicine at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. She attended LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, then completed a residency in Pediatrics at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. She then realized the joy of emergency medicine and completed another residency in Emergency Medicine at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She became interested in scope of practice adcovacy a few years ago and now this has become her "free" job, working with AAEM, ACEP, and the Louisiana State Medical Society on workforce issues. She also started the non-profit Louisiana Physicians for Patients last year, along with Dr. Jamie Kuo and Dr. Etch Shaheen. The goal is to work for safe healthcare legislation for patients. She was honored to recieve the first AAEM Advocate of the Year Award at Scientific Assembly last year. She actively participates in medical missions in Belize every year, and is a crazy Saints fan, but her favorite times are spent with her family.
