Dr. Ravera completed his undergraduate degree at University of California, Berkeley, followed by medical school at the University of Vermont (now Robert Larner) College of Medicine. He did his residency in emergency medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he served as the chief resident of education in his final year. After residency, he completed his fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Harbor UCLA Medical Center/Childrens’ Hospital Orange County.
Post-graduation, his first job was in a hospital in rural New Zealand. In 2017, he became the first Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the University of Vermont. Since accepting the position, he has helped develop the PEM curriculum for a fledgling EM residency, has taught clinically, and presented numerous lectures to both the Emergency Medicine and Pediatric departments. He has also been actively involved in medical education at the College of Medicine. He was recognized by the EM residents as the clinical teacher of the year for 2021-2022.
Dr. Ravera is passionate about education -- in particular, about PEM education for the general EM physician. In addition to his roles at UVM, Dr. Ravera has advanced PEM education in the field by giving talks for ACEP, appearing on EMRAP, being the section editor of PEM for EMdocs.net, and producing a free podcast, PEM GEMS, which is designed for pediatric care in all emergency department settings.
