Community Violence and the Emergency Physician

Trauma can be defined as an injury (such as a wound) to living tissue caused by an extrinsic agent. From our practice in the emergency department we see and treat trauma regularly; however, the impact of trauma goes well beyond the physical injuries. The talk will examine specific types of trauma and the intersection of both physical and psychosocial trauma with best practices that can be implemented in the emergency department.
