Hyperkalemia is one of the most dangerous electrolyte abnormalities and something emergency physicians regularly manage. However, no consensus exists as to who to specifically treat and what medications to use. This lecture will provide information on who should receive hyperkalemic management as well as how to perfect the usage of a popular medication.

  • Develop an approach as to when to initiate hyperkalemia management
  • Determine whether lactated Ringer’s or normal saline is most appropriate for hyperkalemia management
