Care of pregnant patients was radically altered following the June 2022 SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to an abortion. Emergency physicians will be faced with incredibly difficult decisions regarding pregnant patients with potentially life-threatening complications such as incomplete or septic miscarriages. The speaker will review miscarriage management, self-managed home abortions, and also make recommendations for how individual EP and departments can prepare for a post-Roe world.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the management of miscarriage
Recognize the complications of abortions performed at home or illegally
List steps that individual emergency physicians and departments can take to prepare for a post-Roe world
