Many emergency physicians finish residency and will feel unprepared to manage the smallest and most critical airways, those of our pediatric patients. The patient's anatomy, drug selection and equipment needed will vary with age, and in this lecture we will discuss these changes as well as the metabolic and physiologic changes you must account for to prevent critical desaturation.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the anatomic variations pediatric patients can present with when compared to adults.
explain the rational for choosing a miller blade over a Mac blade.
understand the variations in safe induction agents based on age/weight.
