Goals of care conversations are vital in the Emergency Department, however time constraints and high stress situations can make them challenging. This small group session will be a hands-on workshop to master rapid goals of care conversations in the ED. The session will begin with a brief lecture to explain and demonstrate the skills of the rapid goals of care conversations. We will break out into 6 small groups of 4-5 learners each. We will utilize role playing and rapid cycle deliberate practice to optimize learning. Each participant will have the opportunity to practice goals of care conversations. The facilitator will give specific feedback and learners will be able to repeat parts of the conversation as needed until mastery is achieved.

Utilize a stepwise approach to rapid goals of care conversations
Identify patients' priorities and acceptable health outcomes
Explain medical recommendations and next steps in care based on patients' goals and values
