If only we could continue to practice medicine at ABEM General where every patient has a bed and gets IV/O2 and Monitoring. Instead, we are often left short staffed and without beds.

Misery loves company, so in this session you will realize you are not alone struggling with a lack of resources and staff. We will cover strategies on how to safely practice hallway/waiting room medicine in this challenging environment and give tips to minimize the emotional strain this has on you and your patients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop an approach to safely manage your patients in chairs and hallway beds
  • Describe causes of moral injury and “burn out” caused by ED overcrowding and identify ways to mitigate them
